A view from the top of the Georgia Mountains

The 4th of July has been one of my favorite holidays since I was old enough to enjoy a fireworks display.  Setting off fireworks as a teenager only made the 4th better, now a cook out and watching the display at night with family and friends suits me well.  One thing I've learned over the past few years is to make your reservations early, even years in advance if you want to secure a prime location.

A cabin rental at a higher altitude can provide a special view of some of the independent displays that will be popping up all over the Georgia Mountains.  Be safe and let's not start any forest fires

Each day I talk with several business owners, managers and employees and I find it fascinating that one business flourishes while another is struggling, even in the same industry and relative proximity.  Management styles vary and I am left in the dark as to their capitalization, budgets and so on.  But, the main difference that I can observe between two like companies providing like services are the owner's involvement and synergy that they create in their workplace.

Generally speaking, the businesses that are struggling flat out blame the economy. It's the easiest thing to do.  Granted it is challenge out there, it always has been challenging and I can't ever recall when people were saying times were good in the present tense.

It is nature's way, survival of the fittest, call it what you want.  The businesses that are leading the pack are heads down finding a way to make it happen and not taking the time to complain.  They're digging in and working it, they're leaner and they are rising up to the challenge.  Push yourself to make it happen, keep listing your options, keep trying.

(I sounded like my Dad for second there.)

Just north of Clarkesville and west of Clayton lies one of Georgia's best kept secrets, Lake Burton.  The water is clean and the view of the mountains while floating in the lake is only surpassed by its view under the stars at night.  Lake Burton's water level is maintained within an inch each year and the boat houses that line the lake shore are a sight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Lake Rabun and Seed are a close second only because Lake Burton is larger with 60 mile of shore line.  Cabins range from 500k to 3m surrounding the lake.  Rentals make an attractive summer get away package without having to travel too far for a timeless summer escape.

Tim Peeler of Cleveland County North Carolina scarred off a creature that resembled Big Foot trying to attack is dogs in his back yard.  This story broke on the O'Reilly Factor with an interview of Tim demonstrating how he threatened the Big Foot back into the woods with a long stick.  No photos of Big Foot were taken and its destination is of course, unknown.  Be alert on the Appalachian Trail and, if possible, try to get some quality video while running for your life.

The photo on the right is from Patterson and Gimlin's 8mm film of the creature in 1967 spotted in Northern California.
