Blairsville is the county seat of Union County, located deep in the Chattahoochee National Forest and North Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains. Incorporated in 1835, it was named after Frank Blair, a Washington, D. C. newspaper editor. The county was originally inhabited by Native Americans, but early white settlers were drawn to the area when gold was discovered in the 1820's.
