Ellijay is the County Seat for Gilmer County. Gilmer county is located in the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Its known for its beauty and natural foliage.  Ellijay is rich in history with the Trail of Many Tears, the Gold Rush of 1842 and home the oldest standing church in North Georgia. Many come to visit Ellijay to learn about the city or just to take in the sites the city has to offer.  

Attractions:

Ellijay has many attractions including Carter's Lake, the deepest man-made lake east of the Mississippi River, Amicalola Falls State Park and Fort Mountain State Park.  Outdoor activities range from corn mazes to mountain biking and even petting zoos. You can enjoy a picnic on the banks of the Chattahoochee River or take a walk on one of the many hiking trails.




Local Events:

Ellijay is Georgia's Apple Capital. Sixty percent of Georgia's apples come from Gilmer county. Ellijay is now celebrating it's 40th year of the Apple Festival. The Apple Festival happens during the fall, every year. It has over 300 vendors, a parade and an antique car show. There are many more activities to do at the Apple Festival for you and the whole family to participate in.
